Loss of Matthew Altenritter

Please see the below from the Department of Environmental Science and Ecology at SUNY Brockport:

“Hello All,

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our esteemed colleague, Dr. Matthew Altenritter. Matt, age 37, passed away on Saturday (3/16) with his loving family by his side after a yearlong fight with stomach cancer. Matt was not only a colleague but also a friend, mentor, and inspiration to many in our department. Beyond his professional achievements, Matt will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to support and uplift others. He cultivated a sense of camaraderie and unity in our department, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment that enriched the experiences of all who had the privilege to work alongside him.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Megan, their two children (Marie-Claire 7 and George 12), friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate through this period of grief and loss.

As we mourn this profound loss, we recognize the financial burdens that can accompany such a profound and unexpected loss. To help alleviate some of these burdens and provide assistance to his family, you can contribute to the donation fund at https://gofund.me/9f287564.”
